Two Iconic Brands Team Up to Promote Culture and Sports in San Jose

Wednesday, May 01, 2019

International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) and AstroTurf are both giants in their respective industries and are used to leading the way in everything they do. After all, AstroTurf is the inventor of artificial turf and the leader in innovating synthetic playing surfaces for over 50 years. And not many can compare with IBM’s 100 plus years of amazing developments such as the ATM, hard disk drive, magnetic stripe card, UPC Barcode and much more. These two corporate icons have teamed up to do something very special at IBM in Silicon Valley.

AstroTurf has installed 76,136 square feet of artificial turf that will serve as a new soccer field as well as a Cricket field for IBM employees. One of the world’s largest companies employing over 380,000 people world-wide, IBM recognizes the value of their work force and looks for new ways to encourage, motivate, reward and bring their team together. As IBM brings in tech workers from all over the world, they felt it was important to make some of their favorite sports more accessible. Soccer has long had a strong foothold in the United States but Cricket is still relatively obscure in this country. As more and more tech workers move here from Southern Asia and India it was important to promote one of their favorite sports, Cricket, here as well.

IBM, also known as “Big Blue” decided to be true to their nickname and go with an all blue playing field. The field features AstroTurf’s Rhino Blend. The Rhino Series synthetic sports turf is a good choice for clients who are looking for increased playing time and performance of their sports fields. This field benefits from AstroTurf’s legendary quality control protocols and industry-leading R&D efforts. The big blue field adorned with their famous logo should fit in nicely at the IBM complex in San Jose that already boasts other employee-friendly activities and amenities.

AstroTurf Regional Sales Manager Dominick Berarducci stated, “What a tremendous opportunity to work with a legendary business such as IBM! When we were approached by IBM as a referral from another client in the Bay Area, we along with our partner, Valley Precision Grading, were over the top with excitement on being able to provide our design and construction for IBM. We build fields and help clients develop campuses into communities for a living and we know the value these fields have in bringing people together, so these are the type of projects that we can truly appreciate. Thank you IBM for entrusting our team to build your community!”

To say that IBM employees are valuable is a gigantic understatement. Over the years, IBM employees have been awarded five Nobel Prizes, six Turing Awards, ten National Medals of Technology and five National Medals of Science. Their employees have also contributed to the fact that IBM has held the record for most U.S. Patents generated by a business for 25 consecutive years. It is an honor for AstroTurf employees to design, manufacture, and install this great new field for the amazing employees at IBM.
