Workers begin installing field at new CSU stadium

15 April 2017

Workers laid down the first strips of artificial turf at CSU's new on-campus stadium Thursday afternoon, beginning what school officials have said will be a month-long process to install the playing surface.

The artificial turf, Shaw Sports System's PowerBlade Pro, also will be placed on the new practice facility to the west of the stadium.

The stadium's field should be fully installed by the middle of May, with the practice field surface completed before Icon Venue Group the project manager for the $220 million stadium — turns the keys to the facility over to the university June 9.

Itemized costs for the turf installation were not immediately available but are included within the guaranteed construction cost of $220 million. The practice facility's construction costs also are included in that total, athletic director Joe Parker said.

Colorado State University is scheduled to play its first game in the stadium, which will have 36,500 seats and total capacity of 41,000, on Aug. 26 against Oregon State.

The new on-campus stadium is replacing Hughes Stadium, a 32,500-seat facility 3 miles west of the school's main campus that has been the site of all CSU home football games since 1968.
