Work begins on Stadium Field turf replacement

31 July 2018

Crews on Monday began removing the old turf at Parkersburg High School’s Stadium Field, the first in a series of planned athletic facility renovation projects.

In June, officials approved turf and track replacement at Stadium Field at a cost of $403,000 and $631,000, respectively.

At the Wood County Board of Education’s July 24 meeting, Superintendent Will Hosaflook said Stadium Field will be ready for football season.

“They gave me a time frame of 14 days, they’ll go in, take the turf up and put new turf down,” he said.

The district also is working on restrooms at Erickson All-Sports Facility. The foundation and pipes, paid for through donations to the Erickson All-Sports Facility Board, already are in place for the bathroom, but officials estimated the remaining cost of the project to be around $700,000.

“Right now Pickering Associates is in the drawing phase. There were some changes made to those restrooms, and they had to redo the drawings,” Hosaflook said. “The drawings will be available for us (Thursday) Aug. 2 and the bids will go out Aug. 20.”

Hosaflook said sometime in early August, officials will begin to look at what needs to be done to the Parkersburg South High School tennis courts.

“We are two weeks out before we can get someone in to look at the tennis courts,” he said. “My understanding is some of the tennis courts can be salvaged while others will need to be replaced, so we are waiting on the expert opinion for that.”
