Norfolk State University completed its turf installation project at William “Dick” Price Stadium in time for the Spartans season opener against the Virginia State Trojans on Aug. 31. NSU won the Labor Day Classic contest 34-n13.

Rockland, Maryland-based R.A.D Sports contractor began the project in June to replace the field’s existing grass with a premium synthetic surface. The new turf also includes new additions and updated designs to the home team’s end zones and sidelines between the 25-yard line.

This new turf allows NSU’s football team to practice at home during the season and enables the university to hosts more events year-round without causing damage to the field. In addition to new turf and field design, a new drainage system is in place.

Before the new season, the Spartans played on the stadium’s natural grass surface since the facility opened in 1997. William “Dick” Price Stadium is named after NSU’s former athletic director and track coach.

The stadium can seat 30,000 fans and is one of the largest sports and entertainment venues in the Hampton Roads Area.
