TCU Plans $100 Million Upgrade for Amon G. Carter Stadium

TCU has one of the top football programs in the country, and soon its stadium will have the elite amenities to match.

The university announced plans Tuesday for a $100 million upgrade to Amon G. Carter Stadium, just five years after the stadium's last makeover.

The biggest addition will be 1,000 club seats and 20 luxury suites just above the east-side stands. The plans also call for a 100-foot outdoor balcony and a new video board.

When the latest renovation is complete, fans will be sitting on close to $300 million in stadium upgrades in less than a decade.

"It really is one of those places that I wouldn't mind putting more money into, because we use it so often, and to have that sense of pride at a school is like nothing else," said TCU senior Nina Below.

But some students question whether the stadium is getting more than its fair share.

"No, it's not where I'd want the money to go," said senior Erynn Reed. "I feel like our football facility is well-done already."

She and a group of friends say they'd rather see more parking around campus and a focus on advancing academic programs.

"I think our stadium is beautiful as it is, and there are already kind of issues with filling it up," Bryn Lohrberg said.

But while general seating often doesn't sell out, the university says there is a waiting list of 1,000 people for those luxury club seats.

"It makes a lot of sense that they're trying to get some more fancy seats for our alumni, because they do an amazing job of donating and making these renovations possible," freshman Addyson Jackson said.

The project will be fully funded with private donations, so the money can only go toward the stadium. A fundraising campaign kicked off Tuesday.
