Sports facility planned for Mill Creek,Washington

1 December 2016

The Redmond-based company Arena Sports is planning a new sports complex in Mill Creek.

The 98,000 square-foot building would house soccer fields and a family fun center. The complex would include a bowling alley, laser tag, arcade, rock-climbing tower, ropes course and an inflatable playground.

It would be about twice the size of the Arena Sports Redmond location. Arena Sports says it would hire as many as 200 employees, many of them part-time coaching jobs for high school and college students.

Mill Creek would be the company's fifth location. They already have complexes in SODO, Magnuson Park, Issaquah and Redmond. The company is working with the city of Mill Creek to get the permit for the location off the Bothell Everett Highway and Dumas Road.

The company says it would expect 1 million visits a year, most of them on nights and weekends when their other facilities see the most use.The Mill Creek Hearing Examiner will listen to recommendations from the city, Arena Sports, and  the public before deciding whether to approve the permit.

A public hearing will be scheduled for early next year, likely in January so the public can give input.  Traffic is one issue the city is studying right now, so is the environmental impact. At this point city administrators don’t see a reason to deny the permit.

Arena Sports hopes to get the permit approved and begin construction this spring and plans to open in October 2017.
