The Spokane City Council has indefinitely tabled a proposal to build a new stadium in downtown Spokane to replace Joe Albi Stadium.

KREM-TV reports that the council voted Monday to table a $31 million city bond measure that would have included money for a new stadium on the North Bank of the Spokane River and artificial turf fields elsewhere.

The city said Monday that the proposal will not be included on the November ballot.

Mayor David Condon says he was caught off guard by Monday's decision. He says he's disappointed that the city didn't let voters decide.

The city and Spokane School Board are considering two education bonds. One would help build three middle schools and make other improvements. A second bond would help build three new libraries and update existing ones.
