Red Bay upgrades baseball stadium

9 November 2018

The Red Bay Tigers baseball facilities are getting a facelift before the start of the 2019 season.

Red Bay baseball coach Richard Maggerise said the $20,000 project includes renovating the backstop, netting, home dugout, and concrete work around the seating.

“Red Bay is a very special place,” said Maggerise. “If you are willing to work, and the community sees that you are willing to work, they will try to help you do whatever you need – and that is what we’ve got here.”

Maggerise said Red Bay Mayor Charlene Fancher and the city council have been instrumental in helping make the improvements happen.

“I want to thank Mayor Fancher and Mike Kennedy, who serves as the city council representative on the education committee,” said Maggerise. “They have been great to work with on this project.”

Maggerise also singled out the help of Cindy Pounders, Alan Bostic and the business of Lindsey & Winchester.

“We’ve needed some capital improvements,” said Maggerise. “When I was first hired here, we did a lot of work on the playing surface to get up to our standards. Now we are working on the outside.”

Maggerise noted that interest in baseball at Red Bay is at an all-time high, with more than 40 student-athletes involved in the program.
