Rattlers scrimmage on new Bragg turf

23 August 2018

The Florida A&M football team held its final scrimmage of fall camp on Wednesday ahead of the Rattlers' season opener, which is a week from Saturday.

The Rattlers took to the new turf at Bragg Memorial Stadium and, while it's beautiful and shiny, new head coach Willie Simmons said the turf can get a bit hot.

"The temperature's a little bit hotter on the turf being that it's a rubber based surface and so there's a little bit more wear and tear on the legs as far as the force that generates from running on an artificial surface as opposed to natural grass," Simmons said. "So, we try to limit our use of the turf. We want to reserve it more so for scrimmage-type situations and inclement weather days. If it's a good weather day, we'll go out on the practice field."
