Osawatomie sports complex gets improvements to courts

17 November 2016

Sporting new surfaces of blue and green, the tennis courts and basketball courts were completed recently as part of the continuing improvements to the Karl E. Cole Sports Complex in Osawatomie.

Osawatomie USD 367 Superintendent Gary French told school board members that things are looking good at the complex and that he’s pleased with the results so far.

These improvements follow on the heels of the finished baseball field, softball field and parking lot projects, which were completed earlier in the year.

Replacing a non-regulation basketball court and two small tennis courts are two full-sized basketball courts and two full-sized regulation tennis courts.

French said the original courts were in disrepair and thanks to the aid of a grant received by the city, the recreation commission was able to make the necessary repairs and replacements.

The project was handled by McConnell and Associates, a company that French said does a lot of tennis courts.

He said not only are the updates good for the school district since students, especially those playing baseball and softball, utilize the sports complex on a routine basis but the improvements are also good for the community since there are very few places in Osawatomie for young people to gather and play safely.

The Karl E. Cole Sports Complex is a community resource. While the school will be using portions of the complex for certain sporting events, the complex is available for public use including the new refurbished tennis and basketball courts.
