MVCC to improve athletic facilities with 10 million project

12 October 2018

When athletes at MVCC compete they can't even play on their own turf, but soon that will change with a $10 million capital improvement project.

The project will make upgrades to all of its outdoor athletic facilities including six new tennis courts with energy-efficient lighting 10 foot fencing and bleacher seating.

The track will increase from six to eight lanes with lighting for nighttime community use, a press box that seats 900, a steeplechase pit along with jumping and throwing areas. There will be a new outdoor soccer and lacrosse stadium with lighting, a scoreboard, a press box along with a concession stand, ticket booth and restrooms.

The outdoor baseball and softball stadium will also have a new synthetic turf, with a press box that seats 450, dugouts, batting cages and bullpens. Officials with the college hope the community will offer financial support to move the project forward.

"The third Monday in October there's a nationwide push for people to donate to nonprofits," said Frank DuRoss, vice president of community development and executive director of MVCC foundation. "This year were focusing on our outdoor athletic upgrades. It's a social media platform will be reaching out to our constituents, our students our donors and community members to ask them to donate to this worthy cause."

The project is expected to be complete by 2021.
