Lyle Hare Stadium turf to be replaced

18 April 2017

Black Hills State University is moving forward with the replacement of the Lyle Hare Stadium artificial turf in preparation for the 2017 football season.

The replacement will begin immediately with a survey and soil samples and be completed with the artificial turf replacement by mid-August when football reports for the fall season.

“The soil stabilization below the artificial turf has failed,” said Jhett Albers, BHSU’s director of athletics. “Repairs have been made over the last four years, but the field is at a point now where its playability has been greatly compromised.

“We are currently in litigation with the former contractor that installed the artificial turf in 2013 and hope to have a resolution in the near future. But for the safety of our student-athletes and others using the field, we need to move forward now in preparation for the fall season.”

Kiefer, USA has been contracted to install the new turf. The company based out of Lindenhurst, Illinois, has installed turf fields at the likes of the Southeastern Conference’s University of Kentucky, the American Athletic Conference’s Southern Methodist University and NCAA Division II schools Pittsburg State, St. Cloud State and Southwest Minnesota State University.
