Kingsport BMA approves nearly $854K for J. Fred Johnson turf replacement

22 November 2018

City leaders gave final approval for the replacement of artificial turf at J. Fred Johnson Stadium.

In a 6-1 vote Tuesday evening, the Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved a $853,807 bid from Field Turf USA. Alderman Jennifer Adler was the sole vote against the measure.

J. Fred Johnson Stadium is home turf for Dobyns-Bennett High School's football and baseball teams.

In addition to replacing the football and baseball turf, the company will also replace the artificial turf in the indoor baseball practice facility.

The Board of Education previously approved the project.

The bid includes $10,500 for expedited project completion by February 11, 2019.
