Haank Aaron Stadium improvements to take place

22 March 2017

The Mobile BayBears started 21 years ago when they first played in Hank Aaron Stadium. In recent years, the stadium has shown its age and led to discussions about who picks up the tab for upgrades.

The boys of summer will be returning to Mobile soon, and they'll be returning to a much-improved Hank Aaron Stadium.

The BayBears general manager, Chris Morgan, estimates the city came up with 600 to 700-thousand dollars this year alone to upgrade The Hank.At Tuesday's Mobile City Council meeting, council member, John Williams stated that this was a wise investment for the city.

The BayBears have resumed paying its lease with the city, but still owe a substantial amount in back rent. They were also last in attendance in the Southern League last season, averaging just over 15-hundred fans per game.

An argument could be made if the community interest matches the financial commitment; the BayBears are counting that an upgraded Hank Aaron Stadium will increase fan interest, and that will be a home run for both the team and the community.
