Grand Haven Waterfront Stadium reopens

22 June 2018

After years in the making, a Grand Haven favorite is open to the public again. The Lynne Sherwood Waterfront Stadium officially opened on Thursday June 21, 2018, after getting a total revamp.

The facility is located in downtown Grand Haven right on the water in front of the musical fountain.

The stadium's new design includes tiered grass seating, a band shell, a concession stand, and a space for dancing and volleyball. It also has room for up to 2,000 people and is pet friendly.

"This stadium is more than just a waterfront place for people to enjoy hours of entertainment, it’s really a place for anyone that visits our community with family and friends to experience our community. It’s a gateway to West Michigan," Jim Lilly, the Grand Haven area State Representative, said.

“Having these spaces really makes a community and having this access to view the natural resources, this is what brings people here and keeps people here,” Tamara Jorkasky, a DNR Grant Coordinator added. The project received $280,000 from the Department of Natural Resource Trust Fund.

The new stadium is named after Lynne Sherwood a well known philanthropist in the area who passed away in 2016.

“This space will always be a lasting tribute to Lynne, her love of community and an inspiring reminder to all of us to always live generously," Holly Johnson with the Grand Haven Area Community Foundation, said.
