East side of Arizona Stadium to be renovated for 2018 football season

2 February 2018

Everything surrounding Arizona Wildcats football is getting a facelift this offseason.

Including the student section. As we move deeper into the offseason, the concourses on the east side of the stadium are about to undergo a renovation project which is scheduled to be completed by the start of the 2018 season. Arizona opens the year at home against the BYU Cougars on September 1st.

You can also watch the progress with a live webcam. Everything except the north end of Arizona Stadium is in desperate need of renovations, and according to the UA website, the ultimate renovation budget is projected to be $150 million. This east side project appears to be costing $25,463,000. It will be “including work on the ground level concourse (including new concessions and restrooms), student seating area (the ZonaZoo), and the southeast entrance.”

Also listed on the UA’s construction site is the new indoor sports facility. Construction is scheduled to start in April and last until January. According to the project’s map, the building will essentially be replacing Kindall Field at Sancet Stadium.

The rendering for the project has been removed from its official page, but here is what used to be there:

This building would be a gamechanger in many ways. As previously stated, it can contribute to the fan experience before games, and its location would make it a premium place to tailgate.

It also adds to the new academic building and tubs that were recently built along Enke across from McKale Center. All of the sudden all of Arizona’s sports teams would have the ability to use all of these buildings, and not have to go very far to do so.

Exciting times on National Championship Drive.
