Decorated Knight set for Breeders' Cup Turf bid

30 October 2017

Roger Charlton is favouring the Breeders' Cup Turf over a mile and a half rather than the Mile for Decorated Knight.

A surprise winner of the Irish Champion Stakes on his last outing, he has never run over 12 furlongs in his 18 race career.

Connections had mooted a crack at the Mile but the sharp nature of the track at Del Mar has left them favouring the Turf.

"When he won the Irish Champion Stakes that got him a free pass into both races," said Charlton on Racing UK.

"I'm of opinion the Mile looks the weaker race but it's a very sharp track so at the moment I'm thinking of the mile and a half race. He hasn't run over the trip before but he should be fine there.

"He ran at Lingfiled before Dubai so he's been on the go since February.

"On purpose he's had seven weeks off between Ireland and the Breeders' Cup, I'm not sure it would have been an ideal prep to have a hard race two weeks before the Breeders' Cup at Ascot (Champion Stakes)."
