Creve Coeur approves stadium lights at Missouri Baptist University

12 December 2018

The City Council here on Monday night gave final approval to a permit that will allow for stadium lighting at Missouri Baptist University's athletic field.

The now-practice field is on the southwest portion of the campus at 1 College Park Drive.

“The university wants to make it a competition field for football, soccer and lacrosse and wants to add stadium lighting, a public address system, a new track and bleacher seating,” said George Stock, of Stock and Associates Consulting Engineers Inc. and representing the university.

The city's Planning and Zoning Commission approved the site development plan for these improvements, as well as a new scoreboard, a revised section of the existing campus trail network that includes a new pedestrian bridge, and minor building additions, on Dec. 3. Only the stadium lighting required City Council approval.

Jason Jaggi, the city's director of community development, said restrictions were put on the use of the PA system by the Planning and Zoning Commission. The restrictions must be followed when the field lighting is used, such as that it will be used only for games and special events and never for practices and that it will not be used after 9 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays or after 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays except if games run over (and, then, for no more than 30 minutes later than those deadlines).

Also Monday, the council approved Mayor Barry Glantz's request that Sharon Stott, assistant city administrator since 2013, be named interim city administrator, effective Dec. 26.

The firm GovHR USA is helping the city find an administrator to replace Mark Perkins, who is taking a job in Arizona.

Stott has been with the city since 2011, originally as public information officer and management analyst.
