Carlmont High School, situated within the Sequoia Union High School District in Belmont, California, San Mateo County, boasts a reputation for academic excellence and athletic prowess. Recently, Carlmont High School's primary athletic sports field, known as Bruce Usher Stadium, underwent a substantial transformation, receiving a state-of-the-art Shaw Sports Turf field.

The previous synthetic turf surface at Bruce Usher Stadium had admirably served the school's athletes and community for a decade before it was time for an upgrade. Interestingly, the previous turf was also a Shaw Sports Turf surface.

Jay Newman, the project manager for Sequoia Union High School District, explained the decision to opt for Shaw again, saying, "We needed to replace our existing Shaw turf because it was nearing the end of its useful life. We used Shaw again because they did the original installation 10 years ago and had been contracted for maintenance and testing over that period of time."

Bruce Usher Stadium plays a pivotal role in hosting a diverse range of sports and school events, including graduation and other significant school-wide ceremonies. The field primarily caters to football, soccer, flag football, and lacrosse. To meet these varied demands, Shaw recommended the Legion NXT turf system, well-suited for this multi-use field.

Shaw Sports Turf installed 84,000 square feet of Legion NXT 2.0", featuring the ThunderBolt Fiber, a cutting-edge combination of monofilament and premium slit film fibers. Legion NXT represents a hybrid system renowned for its realism and exceptional durability, making it one of the most robust products in the industry.

School officials were not only impressed by the turf's quality but also by their experience working with Shaw. Grant Steunenberg, Administrative Vice President at Carlmont High School, praised the collaborative approach, stating, "Working with Shaw was a positive experience. They worked collaboratively with our project manager and site team to accommodate requests specific to our site needs." Shaw's responsiveness and project management ensured that the project was completed on time and within budget, a sentiment echoed by Jay Newman.

The upgraded synthetic turf surface promises to benefit the entire student body, student athletes, and the local community. According to Newman, the field at Bruce Usher Stadium "will be much appreciated by sports participants given the resilient sports surface and by spectators due to the bright and colorful new appearance." Steunenberg added, "A new field positively impacts school culture and imparts a feeling of pride in our student-athletes."

The replacement turf field project was successfully completed on August 4th, 2023, coinciding with the commencement of football practice.
