Christchurch sports venue given all clear to expand

26 December 2018

Special earthquake recovery powers have been used to allow a Christchurch sporting venue to expand.

The privately-owned Christchurch Football Centre in Yaldhurst will now be allowed to add facilities for other sports.

Additions will include a gymnastics centre, an indoor sports stadium with courts for sports such as netball, basketball and futsal, a swimming pool with diving and triathlon facilities, and outdoor fields or courts for sports such as athletics, hockey, tennis and rugby.

The complex has been built by Canterbury Sports Ltd, a private company headed by Russian businessman and philanthropist Slava Meyn, who lives in Christchurch.
