Badminton centre at Kalinga Stadium soon

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik laid foundation-stone for a state-of-the-art high-performance centre for badminton at the Kalinga Stadium here on Monday.

Christened as “Dalmia Bharat Gopichand Badminton Academy” and being built with support from Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Ltd. (DCBL), the academy would be equipped with 10 badminton courts, a gymnasium, boarding and lodging facilities for players, coaches and support staffs.

The international-standard academy would impart higher level of coaching and training with the help of world-class coaches and sports professionals. It would provide advanced sports amenities to support and encourage the sportspersons to achieve excellence in international arena. The construction of the academy would be completed in a year’s time, said DCBL sources.

As per an MoU with the State’s Department of Sports & Youth Services (DSYS), the Pullela Gopichand Badminton Foundation (PGBF) and the Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Ltd have agreed to collaborate under the name of Dalmia Bharat Gopichand Badminton Academy.
