Newcastle Basketball stadium turns over a green leaf

12 January 2017

Newcastle Basketball Stadium will cut its energy consumption by 40 per cent and save about $8000 a year through the installation of energy efficient lighting.

The savings have been made possible by switching 61 high-bay 400 watt lights with 150 watt LED light replacements. The project was made possible through a $7500 NSW Country Basketball grant.

“Our energy costs are more than $40,000 per year, which is significant for a non-profit organisation trying to keep the cost of playing basketball down,” Newcastle Basketball general manager Neil Goffet said.

“Our lights are on for competition basketball seven nights per week, 50 weeks of the year and when the games finish the cleaner has lights on until basketball starts again at 6am.The stadium’s main court will still use occasionally use fluorescent lighting for championship games.

“None of it would have been possible without the tremendous support of NSW Country Basketball and their new grants program.”
