Design team named for $35 million sports complex

22 January 2016

Placer Valley Tourism has picked a team of mostly local designers for the $35 million regional sports complex in Roseville.

The pre-construction team includes Roebbelen Contracting of El Dorado Hills, OC Jones & Sons of Berkeley and Valley Crest Landscape of Sacramento. They will work with architecture firm LPA Sacramento Inc. and Griffin Structures of Laguna Beach and Coastal Partners LLC of Roseville to assist in the final designs of the 10-field amateur sports complex.

Members of this team could potentially end up being the general contractor on the actual construction of the project, said Placer Valley Tourism CEO David Attaway.

At this stage, the designers will work on layout, parking, irrigation, concessions, drainage and an event plaza on 55 acres of city-owned land. By having them all work early in the design process, they can cut costs in the early stages, Attaway said.

Scheduled to open in early 2018, the venue is now shopping for a naming sponsor. Placer Valley is anticipating something in the range of $1 million for a 10-year term.

The complex will host lacrosse, soccer, football, rugby, Ultimate Frisbee and other sports tournaments on artificial turf fields.

The sports complex is expected to generate 25,000 annual hotel stays for Roseville, Rocklin and Lincoln, which is already a popular area for regional tournaments.
