8 May 2015

The Caloocan City government is accepting bids for a P300-million brand new sports complex which will rise in Barangay 171, Bagumbong.

The 1.7-hectare facility will have the following features: A covered arena with a seating capacity of 3,000, a swimming pool, tennis courts, a jogging path, gazebos, a leisure park and a badminton court.

“It will soon host a number of exciting games from maybe the Philippine Basketball Association, boxing fights, professional volleyball tournaments, national athletic meets to concerts of popular artists,” Mayor Oscar Malapitan said in a statement the other day.

“This is the first seed that we are planting in Bagumbong,” he added.

“We are hoping that it would be a stimulus for other businesses to also plant their seeds in the area for economic gains,” Malapitan said.

According to him, restaurants, boutiques and other shops were expected to be built near the sports complex.

The 2014 Supplemental Budget No. 14 for the sports complex was approved under Ordinance No. 0541. The facility is expected to be completed within 540 days or less than 18 months upon receipt of a notice to proceed.
