Introduction:
Detroit City Football Club (DCFC), its development partners and Mayor Mary Sheffield have marked the next phase of the club’s stadium development at the future AlumniFi Field site in southwest Detroit. The $150 million-plus stadium is part of a wider $200 million mixed-use development designed to strengthen the area as a year-round sports and entertainment destination.
Features:
The groundbreaking marks a major step towards the development of the 15,000-seat, soccer-specific AlumniFi Field at the former Southwest Detroit Hospital site.
The wider development will include a 421-space parking garage and a 104-unit residential building, with 76 units designated as affordable housing.
The project is expected to generate around 1,030 construction jobs and 142 permanent full-time positions. Once completed, the stadium will become Michigan’s only privately owned major sports stadium.
Demolition of the long-vacant hospital site was completed earlier this year, clearing the way for construction. The stadium is scheduled to open in 2028 and is expected to bring the site back into productive use while supporting the wider regeneration of southwest Detroit.
