Introduction:
Churchill Downs Incorporated has announced an $80-$90 million renovation of the grandstand at Churchill Downs Racetrack. This project aims to enhance ticketed seating options and significantly upgrade the amenities available to all guests in the grandstand area.
Features:
Construction on the Grandstand Club and Pavilion is set to begin in August, with completion targeted for the 151st Kentucky Derby in May 2025.
The Grandstand Club renovation will replace the existing outdoor aluminum bleachers with 8,300 new, comfortable seating options. These will include both covered and uncovered stadium-style seats, as well as rail boxes along the outer rail of the dirt track, offering a unique "trackside" experience where guests can closely observe the horses as they break from the Kentucky Derby Starting Gate. The first floor of the Grandstand Club will feature new and upgraded permanent concessions, bars, and wagering windows.
In addition, the project will significantly enhance amenities for the 2,800 guests in the third-floor box seats under the Starting Gate Suites. The Grandstand Pavilion will be transformed into a more upscale social environment by converting the existing second-floor amenity area into a covered outdoor garden with new concessions, bars, and wagering windows. The second floor expansion will increase space for guest circulation and add an outdoor balcony for additional dining seats. A new, stately entrance to the Grandstand Pavilion will also be constructed, unifying the surrounding exterior architecture.
