The Rakuten Group, Inc. and the All Japan University Basketball Federation (JUBF) announced today that they will host the Sun Chlorella World University Basketball Series (WUBS), This is an annual championship-league-style tournament for college basketball teams. Top university teams from Indonesia, Japan, the Philippines and Taiwan will participate in the inaugural tournament, which will be held at the second venue of the Yoyogi National Arena in Tokyo from August 9 to 11, 2022.

The WUBS event, hosted by JUBF and supported by Rakuten Sports, aims to empower local talent and the basketball world. The tournament provides a platform for college players and teams to showcase their skills on the international stage. The first tournament is limited to invited teams, and a total of 4 top university teams participated in the competition, namely Indonesia’s UPH, Japan’s Tokai University, the Philippines’ Ateneo de Manila University and National Chengchi University, Taiwan. These teams will participate in a six-round round-robin competition over three days to compete for the championship. The organizer plans to expand the number of participating teams and the scope of countries/regions year by year.
