The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) have received approval from FIFA with regards the installation of a standard artificial turf pitch for football in Kenema.

The $644,500 USD project, upon completion, will see the Kenema pitch up to the standards to host any professional football match.

Edel Grass Group, based in Holland, is the contractor and is expected to arrive in Sierra Leone very soon to start the work and should finish the installation before the rainy season.

This development is in line with SLFA President Johansen’s determination to develop the game’s infrastructure and explore the possibilities of hosting CAF tournaments by next year, possibly starting with the African Nations Championship (CHAN).In another development, construction of a 2000-seat pavilion at the Kenema field with the aim of transforming the football field into a mini stadium is ongoing.

Some of the executive members of the Kenema Football Association said they very happy for the grass and seating that will give the stadium a facelift.

They also revealed that handing over the site to the contractor, Malaya Construction Services, on behalf of the Mayor of Kenema City Council, Councilor Anthony Fonie noted that the project to transform the Kenema field into a mini stadium was strategic development agenda in the Mayor’s 2012 Campaign Manifesto.By Bernard Turay Monday April 03, 2017
