With the state's final approval, Purdue University can now proceed with its plans to build a new football performance complex.

The State Budget Committee approved the university's Mollenkopf Athletic Center renovation project, which includes the football facility, at its meeting at the Statehouse on Tuesday, according to an Indiana House Democratic Caucus press release.

The $60 million project, called the Purdue Football Performance Complex, will be a three-story building adjacent to the north side of Mollenkopf.

The 110,000 square-foot facility will include a locker room, weight room, coaching offices, meeting rooms, a player development room, equipment and sports medicine areas. Construction is set to begin in May and be completed in August 2017.
