Perth Stadium's Wider Seats For Bigger Sports Fans

28 April 2016

The colour of the seats at the new Perth stadium were selected with the needs of cricketers in mind.

With the sport now played with three different-coloured balls — red, white and pink — stadium designers consulted cricket chiefs to ensure they picked a colour that would provide a contrast for fielders and batsmen in all forms of the game.

The result is a colour that appeared to take inspiration from another cricketing source.

Comedian Billy Birmingham made much of the shade of the late Richie Benaud’s jackets — the off-white, the bone and the ivory.

He could equally have been talking about the stadium’s 60,000 seats.

The seats, which will mostly be installed next year, are wider than those at Domain Stadium, both for fan comfort and to accommodate our expanding backsides.

Negotiations between the Government, Fremantle and West Coast over stadium use remain on ice while the appointment of stadium manager Stadium Australia Operations is finalised.

Sports Minister Mia Davies would not provide details but insisted negotiations remained on track.
