North Augusta stadium groundbreaking set for May 25

18 May 2017

Groundbreaking for the new GreenJackets stadium in North Augusta’s newly named Riverside Village at Hammonds Ferry will take place at noon May 25, according to a news release.

“This day has been years in the making and (is) a special milestone to commemorate a new era of professional baseball and entertainment in the CSRA,” said Jeff Eiseman, the president and partner of the GreenJackets, a Single-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants.

The riverfront development has been called Project Jackson and Ballpark Village, but the new official name is now Riverside Village at Hammonds Ferry, according to Eiseman and City Administrator Todd Glover.

Though construction has already started, the city, team and Project Jackson master developer Greenstone Properties wanted to hold an official ceremony and invite the public to participate, Eiseman said in the release.

There will be free parking that day, and shuttles will be available from the Medac parking deck and the North Augusta Municipal Center.

“The City of North Augusta is pleased the five-year effort on this transformational project has made it a reality. Baseball will be an important part making this a regional destination,” Mayor Bob Pettit said in a statement. “We are looking forward to hearing the words ‘Play ball’ in 2018.”

Besides the stadium, Riverside Village at Hammonds Ferry will feature a Crowne Plaza hotel and conference center, apartment living, senior living, retail, restaurants and Class “A” office space.

Deposits are being accepted for full-season seats in the ballpark in North Augusta.
