Hoover To Re-Brand New Sports Complex

13 October 2016

There is some controversy in Hoover over the name of its new $80 million sports complex.

The name, "The Bam," was presented by Sports Facilities Management, which will oversee the new complex.

"It doesn't do a lot for me," says Hoover resident Glen Girup.

"They felt that Hoover wasn't recognizable enough, so they wanted to  bring in Alabama, and that's where "Bam" comes in - from Alabama, " City Councilor Casey Middlebrooks explains.

Although it's short, catchy and martketable, Middlebrooks says many Hoover Residents want it to including the name of the city.

"I think they should just name it the "Hoover Sports Complex," Girup suggests.

Others feel that it would be confused with The Bam Sports Grill in Vestavia Hills or the BAM logo used by Books-A-Million.

Now the city is looking for public input.

"We want the citizens to buy into this, so going forward SFM and city of Hoover wants people to be proud of the name," says Middlebrooks.

"We're happily going to re-brand it and involve the citizens."

The plan is to form a committee, include Hoover residents and invite the public to vote on a new name.

The community is invited to a meeting at the Hoover Municipal Center at 4:30 p.m. on Monday to suggest a new name.
