Coastal Qatar to install 140,000 seats in 2022 stadiums

6 April 2017

Three stadiums scheduled to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup will have Made-in-Qatar seats. As they will be manufactured locally, when fans arrive at these arenas in 2022 they will read “Made in Qatar” on the back of their seats.
The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) has awarded the contract to manufacture the seats for three of the 2022 FIFA World Cup proposed host venues to Coastal Qatar, a specialised Qatari manufacturing and construction company.

The seats will be manufactured in a state-of-the-art factory based in Industrial Area that will produce 500 seats a day to cater to three proposed host venues: Al Wakrah Stadium, Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor City and Al Rayyan Stadium.
State-of-the-art polymer injection moulding machinery technique is being used to manufacture the seating. The process is fully-automated, reducing the risk of health and safety issues while improving efficiency.
The details about the project were given by officials from SC and Coastal Qatar in an event to inaugurate the manufacturing unit of the seats yesterday.

The event was attended by representatives of major stakeholders.

The stakeholders will contribute to the successful delivery of the first tournament in the Middle East, including Qatar Rail, Ashghal, Lusail, Aspire Zone Foundation and Qatar Foundation.
Coastal Qatar will not only supply, but also install and maintain the 140,000 seats for the three stadiums. The proposed stadiums for Al Rayyan and Al Wakrah will be 40,000 net seating for tournament phase with Al Bayt Stadium – Al Khor City with 60,000 net seating.

“We are very proud to announce that these seats for the 2022 FIFA World Cup will be made in Qatar,” said Hassan Al Thawadi, SC Secretary General.

“Creating an impact on Qatar’s economy was a key component in our bid to win the FIFA World Cup hosting rights. By facilitating local contractors and companies to take part in the construction of the infrastructure for the tournament, we are delivering one of our key legacy commitments and ensuring the benefits of the 2022 FIFA World Cup are felt across the country”, he added.

“It is an honour to be selected to provide the seats for three of Qatar’s futuristic stadiums for 2022 with technology transfer from Forum Seating,” said Sheikh Mansour bin Jabor Al Thani, Chairman of Coastal Qatar.

"The main principle of our company is to always promote the brand ‘Made in Qatar’ internationally and continue our commitment to the highest quality of our products," he added.
Production of seats for Al Bayt began on April 1, 2017. The seats will be ready by September 2017. Installation of the seats for Al Wakrah will begin on March 1, 2017 and finish on June 30, 2017. Al Rayyan production will commence on December 1, 2017 and is estimated to finish March 2018.

"We will start installing the seats on Al Bayt Stadium by December 2017. It will finish by August 2018. Installation at Al Wakrah will start in May 2018, finishing by October 2018 and installation in Al Rayyan will start August 2018 and will be complete by January 2019," said Sheikh Al Thani. Located in Qatar’s industrial area, Coastal’s Sports Seating Factory was established to manufacture stadium seating that will be used at several proposed venues for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
