Chadron State to renovate stadium, add outdoor track

31 March 2017

Chadron State College's plans for Elliott Field/Don Beebe Stadium include replacing the grandstand and converting the field to artificial turf. Officials announced plans Wednesday for the $11.1 million Sports Complex, which will include a new outdoor track.

College President Randy Rhine says the college already has $8.6 million for the project, including $6.2 million from state bonds approved last year by the Legislature. Contributions are being sought for the remaining $2.5 million.

The project calls for demolition of the south side stadium. It will be replaced by a central grandstand, a concourse and two-story pavilion that will house game officials, coaches, media and fans.

The school expects to begin work at the end of the 2017 football season and plans to have renovations finished by fall 2018.
