Alabama city plans to build new baseball stadium

30 November 2017

An Alabama city is teaming up with an architecture firm to design what may be the Mobile BayBears’ new home.

The city of Madison is hiring Populous Inc. for $300,000 to design a new sports stadium and it has also made an agreement with Turner Construction Co. to build the structure if the project advances, reports AL.com.

Madison is looking to the design to get a better sense of the cost, return on investment, financial suitability and appearance of the proposed stadium.

Madison Mayor Paul Finley said the city could spend $40 million on the stadium, and funding for the project may come from organizations that rent space in the complex and an increase in the lodging tax rate.

As we previously reported, the Mobile BayBears have been sold, and the Town Madison development under construction off I-565 outside Huntsville has been floated as a possible new home. Louis Breland, the landowners and joint venture partner of Town Madison, is one of the new co-owners of the BayBears.
