Voters in Mandan approve $22 million sports complex

10 June 2015

Residents of Mandan have voted to increase taxes to fund a $22 million sports complex.

Unofficial results from Tuesday's election show the measure passing with about 56 percent approval. About 2,800 people voted.

The three-fourths percent sales tax will fund a project that will include a two-rink hockey arena, gymnastics facilities, and a football and track field. The existing football and track field will be converted into ball fields.

The facility will be built either west of the former Mandan Hospital or in front of the Tesoro oil refinery. The decision will be based on costs, topography and potential for growth at the site.

Park Board President Jason Arenz tells The Bismarck Tribune the next steps are to determine the site and to choose an architect to design the complex.
