Top 10 Largest Sports Stadiums In Canada

Canada is home to some impressive sporting arenas, from Edmonton and Montreal to Regina and Toronto.

Most of the country’s biggest sports venues are several decades old, the oldest in the top 10 opening all the way back in 1908.

The New Mosaic Stadium in Regina would make the list in terms of capacity, however the 33,000-seater ground is not due to open until 2017.

Here are the top 5 sports stadiums in Canada in order of permanent seating capacity:

  1.     Commonwealth Stadium, Edmonton, 56,302 seats. Home to Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League, Canada’s biggest sports venue opened in 1978.
  2.     Olympic Stadium, Montreal, 56,040 (expandable to 66,000). Site of the 1976 Summer Olympics, the stadium was new at the time and is now home to the Montreal Expos.
  3.     BC Place, Vancouver, 54,320. Opened in 1983, the home of the BC Lions has a retractable roof and hosted the 2010 Winter Olympics.
  4.     Rogers Centre, Toronto, 53,506. Originally known as the SkyDome, this retractable roofed stadium hosts Toronto Blue Jays matches.
  5.     McMahon Stadium, Calgary, 35,560. Home to the Calgary Stampeders and opened in 1960.
  6.     Investors Group Field, Winnipeg, 33,500. Opened in 2013.
  7.     Mosaic Stadium at Taylor Field, Regina, 33,427. Opened in 1936.
  8.     BMO Field, Toronto, 30,991. Opened in 2007.
  9.     Percival Molson Memorial Stadium, Montreal, 25,012. Opened in 1915.
  10.     TD Place Stadium, Ottawa, 24,000. Opened in 2014.
