Sports Kenya to put up ultra modern stadium at Tharaka Nithi

21 January 2016

Sports Kenya will build an ultra modern Stadium at Kirubia Tharaka Nithi in a move to improve sports in the larger Meru. Sports Kenya (SK) director Fred Muteti said the stadia will help uplift sports in the region.

“We need to borrow the concept of mass sports from countries that have done well. That’s why we are initiating stadiums such as this to boost sports,” Muteti said. He said the stadium will be built in partnership with the community and the CDF from Chuka Igambang’ombe constituency and will be managed by the national government. The stadium will cost an estimated Sh218 million.

Chuka Igambang’ombe MP said already the CDF from his constituency has used Sh18 million to relocate residents, grade and fence the stadium.

The stadium, which will be build on a 5-acre piece of land will have a tartan track, swimming pool, football pitch, rugby and volleyball gymnasium. Muteti said two more stadiums will be built in North Eastern and Western.
