Southern Indiana Developer plans sports complex for Clarksville

A Southern Indiana developer is firming up plans for an indoor sports complex of tournament quality that he said will fill a void in Clarksville.

Alan Muncy, owner of Jeffersonville-based real estate development firm ARC Construction Management LLC, has proposed the ARC

Recreational Complex at his Eastern Commons retail development on Eastern Boulevard, near Interstate 65.

The 30,000-square-foot complex will be built on land owned by Muncy at Eastern Commons, which once housed a Value City Furniture store.

The facility will offer several options for youth and families, including multiple courts and playing surfaces for sports such as baseball, basketball and volleyball, and space for health and wellness and sports fitness training. The facility also will have a walking track, he said.

The courts, he said, will give the facility leverage to pursue amateur sports tournaments.

The complex will be outfitted with fitness and workout equipment, locker rooms and showers, wireless Internet and a snack bar. There will be a second-floor mezzanine and video monitors that will allow the facility to live stream video from games, for instance.
The project could cost as much as $2.5 million, and Muncy hopes to break ground in the next 90 days and have the facility ready within 12 months.

ARC is handling design and construction, Muncy added.

He has been in talks with Clarksville government officials about financial assistance in the form of tax abatement or incentives for the sports complex.

Muncy said the site for the complex is "a perfect location" as it is near Clarksville's Little League baseball facility.
