Setanta sports planning to launch new HD channel and playback service

20 March 2015

Irish sports broadcaster Setanta sports is planning to launch a new HD channel and an online playback service as part of a €4m investment this year.

Speaking to the newspaper, Setanta’s owner Mickey O’Rourke said that the deal will include its rights to cover Champions League and Europa League matches over the next three seasons, the Irish Times reports.

He said: “From August, we’ll have four or five HD channels available in our pack [three relate to BT and ESPN] which will give a hugely improved service to our customers.”

Mr O’Rourke said that Setanta’s Irish business made a small profit in 2014 after revenues grew by more than 20pc to about €30m.
