RCCG Donates Sports Complex To Akowonjo Community

In a bid to ensure that more young souls are won for Christ as well as being corporately responsible to the community where it resides, the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Elim Sanctuary, Lagos Province 37, has donated and commissioned a sports complex for basketball, volleyball and badminton activities.

According to the zonal pastor, Benjamin A. Ajayeoba, the facility located at the Omituntun football field Pako in Akowonjo was renovated for modern use at the cost of over a N1 million, adding that the vision of a social complex was conceived by the General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye.

“We found out that through sports, you can reach more young people. On Sundays, most of them are usually here and so we decided to put the facility on ground so we can reach them. However, sports is one of those things that makes life goes smoothly,” he said.

Pastor-in-charge of Elim Sanctuary, Paul Olukunga, noted that the location of the church is close to an existing field and that at every time of the day, young people gather here.

“You find them smoking and doing other unhealthy activities and so the best way to reduce crime in our society apart from preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ to them, is to engage them. The youths are full of strength and they want to burn their energy, so we hope to reduce crime rate with the dedication of this facility.”

He added that last year the church’s CSR was to a public primary school, where they provided water and toilet facilities, as they look forward to something bigger next year, by God’s grace.

In appreciation, the LCDA Secretary, Engr. Ogunyele Akeem, said: “Before now, the field was occupied by hoodlums and with this facility, there will be reduction in hoodlum activities because it will be maintained. We will also be in talks with the Alimosho local government to ensure that we have competitions organised in this facility to further engage our young people. We however want to appeal to other organisations and individuals who are well to do in this community to take a cue from RCCG to further develop our community,” he added.
