Phase 2 construction is set to begin at Rapid City Sports Complex, South Dakota

26 February 2015

Phase two of a multi–field sports complex can soon get underway.

The Rapid City Sports Complex on Elk Vale road will be home to 12 new soccer fields and a parking complex.

The price tag when complete is close to $4.4 million of Vision Funds.

At Wednesday's Legal and Finance Committee meeting, board members accepted a bid for the second phase of the project for $2 million from J&J Asphalt Company.

Project manager Rod Johnson believes the new, paired-down design of the complex is a good fit for the landscape.

"The original estimate at $10 million was actually based on a larger facility, a 21-field facility. What we actually have out there now is a 12-field facility with opportunity for expansion," Johnson said.

Sept. 1, 2015 is the estimated completion date for the complex. A concession area is also under construction. It's being paid for by Soccer Rapid City.
