Peoria Sports Complex gets upgrades for spring training

16 February 2015

Swing into spring training on March 4 with the annual Peoria Diamond Club Charity Game between the San Diego Padres and Seattle Mariners.

The season will run through April 3. Proceeds from the Peoria Diamond Club Charity Game, along with revenues generated throughout spring training, are donated to local community youth programs through the PDC’s highly successful grant program.

Fans will see big changes at Peoria Sports Complex as the second phase of renovations will be complete. Approximately 1,000 seats were added, making the new capacity 12,339. Several seating improvements were also done, including new fixed seats with cupholders throughout the stadium. Seats along the first and third baselines were redirected toward home plate. Field level seating was added behind home plate and down the lines. A new 4,900-square-foot building was constructed on the third base concourse with an expanded new team store. The second level of the building includes an open terrace for group functions, new concessions stand, bar and restrooms. There also was an expansion of the ticket office, including a remodeling of the main lobby, which will include city offices, Peoria Diamond Club offices and a multi-use conference room.

In the outfield areas, a new 2,400-square-foot group event pavilion was added in left field. With two tiers of space, this area can accommodate up to 300 people. This pavilion includes a bar area for both private events and general public service during games. The pedestrian walkway around the outfield was widened and drink rails added in multiple areas. Accessible seating platforms were added as well as an ADA accessible ramp to the main stadium field.
