Parker Plans To Rearrange Sports Complex

23 July 2016

The City of Parker has noticed its Sports Complex isn't being used to its full potential, so they're making a few changes.

The city said this project is about paying attention to what the residents want to see in their sports complex, similar to when they added lights to the basketball courts.

"It's a beautiful piece of property and there's a lot of wonderful facilities there we just wanted to try to see how we could get utilization," said Rich Musgrave, Parker Mayor.

Right now the complex has one football field, four baseball fields and a couple basketball and tennis courts.

Mayor Musgrave said the basketball courts are used all the time, but the baseball fields are not used as much.

"Trying to search around as best I could I just could find no leagues that needed to come," said Musgrave.

So they are doing some rearranging.

"The two large baseball fields, we're going to eliminate the fence that divides the fields, take a couple of power poles down, eliminate a couple of dugouts, but we're going to create another football field, but that'll be all enclosed," said Musgrave.

They wanted to keep that field fenced in because a football team has asked to host games where they will charge admission, which would be hard to keep up with at their current open football field.

The other two baseball fields will become dog parks.

"We got a huge amount of response, even Tyndall had indicated that they would do that," said Musgrave.

One will be a social park and another will be an agility and obedience park.

"We were flexible enough to say what are the demands and able to make those kind of changes to hopefully meet the demands. I'm really looking forward to seeing if we can keep it busy like every night of the week," said Musgrave.

The city expects the changes will take about three or four months, but the baseball diamonds will still be there in case any teams want to play.
