Panthers Surprise Youth Teams With $1,000 Of Equipment

22 June 2016

It’s a sight not many people get to see, but on Tuesday five local Pee Wee football teams got a look inside Bank of America Stadium.

They toured the press boxes, went in the suites and got an up close look at the field.
But the tour around the stadium was just the beginning.

As the teams roamed around up top, the Panthers rookies gathered downstairs waiting for the team’s final stop.

They young players were greeted by claps and cheers as they made their way into the locker room, slowly realizing the Panthers were paying them a visit.

But that still wasn’t the last surprise. The five teams thought they received the tour because they were finalists to receive a grant from Academy Sports + Outdoors.

They found out at the stadium they were each winners.

Each team was awarded a $1,000 equipment grant and 40 tickets to one of the Panthers preseason games.

For the teams it was a once in a lifetime experience. For the Panthers it was a reminder of the journey that brought them to the NFL.

That includes rookie tight end Braxton Deaver, a Charlotte native and former standout at Providence High School.

"When I was young, 8,9, 10 years old, I looked up to the guys who were playing for the Panthers," Deaver said. "So to see the look on their faces and to know that one of us could have an impact on their lives is pretty special."
