Jamesville-Dewitt Football ready to break in new turf field

15 September 2015

It's been a long time coming.

After years, literally, of political grappling and fundraising with the community, the dream of athletes at Jamesville-Dewitt High School is about to come true.

The Red Rams' field turf field is installed, and the stadium is almost ready to go.

It's no coincidence that J-D had to start its football season on the road.

It's pure skill that led the Red Rams to a 2-0 record.

J-D won at New Hartford and at Fulton to start the season and concludes its season opening road trip at mighty East Syracuse Minoa on Friday.

After that, it's time for the "Got Turf?" dream to come to fruition.

J-D is set to break in the new field this campaign. A game that regardless of the outcome, will be one to remember for Red Rams' players.

"We've never had turf, we've always had to go away and sort of practice on that thing. It's for future sports and it's gonna be a great addition for our program" says J-D running back Mike Schwedes.

The excitement is even leading to some friendly competition.

"It's very special, it's gonna be the first varsity team to get to play on the turf. Me and Mike will be competing for the first touchdown, so it'll be a great time" says running back Jhakeer Jamison.

Either way, Jhakeer is right.

It will be a special day for the J-D community.
