Hutchinson voters pass tax for $29M sports complex rehab

9 April 2015

A $29 million renovation project is set to move forward at Hutchinson's 62-year-old Sports Arena, following voters' approval on Tuesday of a 0.35-cent sales tax increase to pay for the effort.

The Hutchinson News reports sales tax supporters made the case that Hutchinson would be able to attract more events to the facility if improvements were made. Among other events, the city expects it will continue to host the National Junior College Athletic Association's annual basketball tournament.

Hutchinson Community College has pledged $4.5 million toward the project.
