Emporia Recreation Commission Makes It A Priority To Improve Trusler Sports Complex

20 September 2016

The Recreation Commission kept last night's (M) meeting short and sweet; it only took 30 minutes.

They covered a lot of agenda items in a short period of time. The main focus of the meeting was director Tom McEvoy pleading to the board about needing to address Trusler ball fields as soon as possible.

According to McEvoy, they need to first rebuild the infields, especially for the high school and ESU baseball diamonds. This would cost them close to $50,000 per infield at Flint Hills Optimus Complex. If they want to upgrade the entire complex, estimates at this time range from $200,000-$250.000.

They also need to address the infields of the T-Ball fields

McEvoy argues that potential upgrades to the infields needs to be addressed as soon as possible because they practically become retention ponds when it pours down rain.

Other facets of the meeting included the approval of a purchase card policy and updates on the customer loyalty program.

The purchase card policy is a new policy from the Rec Commission where each employee for the Rec Center will get a special credit card. Whenever the employee uses the card, their purchase will shop on one monthly bill. McEvoy states that this will lead to less confusion for accountant Amy Becker when she does intake and balance reports.

As for the customer loyalty program, this is a minor gimmick the Rec Center offers potential clients to entice to stay in shape. The customer loyalty program means if the customer buys 10 Emporia Rec Center programs, then they will get the 11th one for free.

The 11th one is up to a $30 value. Each program that the customer buys must be at least $15 or more. This loyalty card can be used for all members of the recipient's family.

The Rec Commission also approved the treasurer's report and pre-approved part-time personnel checks.
