Eastern Florida adds video board to soccer complex

13 February 2015

Soccer fans will notice quite a change to the Titan Soccer Complex as the Florida High School Athletic Association hosts the state soccer tournament beginning Wednesday.

The school has wrapped up the upgrades to the soccer complex with a huge video board at midfield as well as a new scoreboard in the corner.

“We are very excited,” Eastern Florida president Jim Richey said Saturday while watching the baseball team’s home opener.

It is just another piece of the sports complex that the school is putting together.

Bruce Bochy Field is almost complete as workers continue building the concession stand to go with the rest of the upgrades.

“I am very thrilled for the college. A few years ago Bruce Bochy came out here and decided to help us upgrade and he did that in a huge way,” Richey said. “We just want facilities that will attract people, whether they are students or fans around the community.”

The next project that is close to being finished is the new tennis courts. The courts are hopefully going to be ready before the end of the tennis season, which began over the weekend.

“It is coming along nicely,” Richey said. “The other great thing with the tennis facility is we are going to encourage faculty and students to play and so far people are excited.”

The final piece of the sports complex will be the addition of a softball field, which will go next to the soccer complex. When finished, all of the sports other than golf will be on campus.

Not only is that good for the teams and fans, it also makes it convenient to broadcast more games, something the school is looking to do.

“This has been a long-time vision,” Richey said. “In next few months we will decide, but I want to do a lot more games in the future. The idea behind it was we have a great story to tell, why not tell it ourselves.

“It is exciting, it encourages all of the sports to be great.”
