Delta to give Yankee Stadium skyline a new look for 2016

20 January 2016

The skyline of Yankee Stadium is about to change.

Delta Air Lines, as part of an eight-year extension of its sponsorship deal with the Bronx Bombers, will have its name and logo, in huge 14-foot-tall letters, affixed to the top of the scoreboard in right-center field, the airline said Tuesday.

It is the first time a Yankees sponsor has won such prominent exposure. In fact, the Delta sign will be the same size as the Yankee Stadium sign atop the scoreboard in left field.

Details of the deal were not disclosed but previous reports had Delta paying more than $1 million a year.

The eight year extension of Delta’s sponsorship lasts through the 2023 season. Delta has a similar sponsorship deal with the Mets.

“This prominent, permanent signage is a testament to our support of and dedication to this great team and its amazing fans, including so many of our loyal New York customers and our own more than 10,000 New York-based employees” Gail Grimmett, Delta’s Senior Vice President – New York, said in a statement. “We’re not just in the business of being New York’s number one airline; we’re a reliable partner on the ground and in the air.”

Delta has been the Yankees’ official carrier since 2008 and since then has carried the team the equivalent of 12 times around the world.
